Dayton
is Ohio's sixth largest city, located in the southwestern part of the state. As of the 2010 census, the population was 141,527. It's a major center for manufacturing, shipping and research and development fields, such as aeronautical and astronautically engineering. Dayton is also home to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The city has produced many inventors over the years, including the Wright Brothers, the inventors of powered flight. In 2010, Site Selection Magazine named Dayton the #1 mid-sized metropolitan area in the country for economic development, and one of the best places in the U.S. for college graduates to find a job. The city of Dayton is home to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, which is the largest and oldest military aviation museum in the world. Other attractions include the Dayton Art Institute, the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery (a children's museum,) and the historic Victoria Theatre, located downtown. and host to concerts, shows, ballet and a summertime classic film series. There are also numerous historical museums in Dayton, including the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Park, America's Packard Museum and the SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park. SunWatch is a reconstructed 12th-century American Indian village. The Wright Flyer III, which is the Wright Brothers famous aircraft, can be seen in a museum located at Carillon Historical Park. Dayton's Oregon District is filled with art galleries, specialty shops, restaurants, coffee houses, pubs and nightclubs. The city is also host to many annual festivals, including the Dayton Celtic Festival and the City Folk Festival.

Southwest Ohio's climate features hot, muggy summers and cold winters. It lies in a climatic transition zone at the northern edge of the humid subtropical climate and the southern edge of the humid continental climate. Summers see significant rainfall, with July being the warmest month. The comfort index for southwest Ohio, based on humidity during the summer, is 46 out of 100 (with a higher number being more comfortable.) Winters are cold and snowy, although this area of the state receives less snow than the northeast snowbelt region. Spring is mild with unpredictable weather. Autumn is the sunniest season with cool nights and pleasant daytime temperatures. Extreme weather is a possibility in the form of severe thunderstorms, floods, ice storms and blizzards.
