Columbus is the capital of Ohio, located in the geographic center of the state. As of the 2010 census, the population was 787,033, making it the largest city in the state. The city of Columbus is home to Ohio State University, which is one of the largest campus' in the United States. In 2010, Relocate America ranked Columbus in their top ten cities, and in 2009, Business Week Magazine named the city as "the best place in the country to raise a family." The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is consistently rated as a top U.S. attraction, and in fact, was ranked number one in 2009 by USA Travel Guide. Included at the zoo complex is the Zoombezi Bay Water and Amusement Park. Other attractions include the Columbus Museum of Art, the Wexner Center for the Arts, the Franklin Park Conservatory Botanical Gardens, and COSI (Center of Science and Industry.) Parents Magazine has named COSI one of the ten best science centers for families in the USA. The Ohio Historical Society is a 250,000-square-foot museum located just north of downtown. It includes Ohio Village, which is a replica of an Ohio town around the time of the Civil War. Columbus is a culturally diverse city, with neighborhoods such as German Village and Italian Village. Annual festivals include the Columbus Arts Festival, the Jazz and Ribs Festival, ComFest (a large music festival,) and the Hot Times Festival, which is a celebration of music, arts, food and cultural diversity in the city. Columbus is also home to the Ohio State Fair, one of the largest state fairs in the country. For outdoor recreation, Columbus offers a variety of parks and gardens.

Columbus Weather & Climate

Central Ohio has a humid continental climate and deals with a wide variety of weather each year. Tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, ice storms and blizzards are all possible in central Ohio. An average year sees 173 sunny days. Summers are warm and often humid. The comfort index for central Ohio, based on humidity during the summer, is 46 out of 100 (with a higher number being more comfortable.) Winter is cold and usually snowy, although snowfall varies greatly year to year. The average snowfall is 27 inches. The US average is 37. Spring weather is unpredictable and autumn is pleasant; sunny and mild with cool nights. Tornadoes are a possibility, especially late spring through early fall, although they don't occur as often in central Ohio as in other parts of the U.S.
