Lake-St-Marys
is a reservoir and state park located in west-central Ohio. The official geographical name of the lake is Grand Lake, but it's also known as Grand Lake St. Marys State Park. Lake St. Marys was originally constructed as a feeder reservoir for the Miami-Erie Canal. At 13,500-acres, it was recognized as the largest man-made reservoir in the world for many years. It's also one of Ohio's first state parks, opening in 1949. Lake St. Marys is open year round and offers swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, picnicking and camping. The park is located along a major migratory route for birds and supports geese, loons, ducks, egrets, herons, cormorants and ospreys. Bald Eagles also nest in the Grand Lake St. Marys Wildlife Refuge, which is located on the southwestern corner of the lake. A miniature golf course and bike rentals are available in the park, and boats of unlimited horsepower are allowed on the lake. Seasonal dock rentals are available and several launch ramps are along the shoreline. The state wildlife refuge area, in the southwest corner, is off limits to all boats at all times. Four public swimming beaches are located at Lake St. Marys, but no lifeguard is on duty. In the wintertime, the park offers snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Nearby attractions include the Miami-Erie Trail, which is part of a 47-mile statewide hiking trail, St. Marys Fish Hatchery and the Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum, located in the town of Wapakoneta.

Northwest Ohio's climate is humid continental according to the Koppen Climate Classification. The region experiences four distinct seasons with warm, humid summers and cold to frigid winters. Snowfall varies greatly year to year. Some years will see very little in the way of snow accumulation, while other years, blizzards are not uncommon. Thunderstorms and tornadoes are another possibility, especially in spring and summer. Spring weather in Northwest Ohio is very unpredictable and often cool and rainy. Autumn is the sunniest time of year with mild temperatures, which results in beautiful fall foliage. A jacket is recommended for fall evenings that can dip into the upper 30s to low 40s. It's best to always check ahead when traveling to Ohio to make sure you have the proper attire as the weather is changeable.
