Mansfield
is located in Richland County in north-central Ohio. It lies within the western foothills of the Allegheny Plateau and has the highest elevation of any area in the state. As of the 2010 census, the population was 47,821. Mansfield's motto is "The Fun Center of Ohio," home to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the Mansfield Motorsports Park. Mansfield also boasts 33 parks that range in size from a half-acre to 35 acres and several public golf courses. The city is also home to one of the only ski resorts in the state of Ohio. You'll find several unique attractions in Mansfield, such as Malabar Farm State Park, former home and farm of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Bromfield. Kingwood Center is a historic 47-acre estate that offer tours of a mansion and stunning gardens. Mansfield is also home to the old Ohio State Reformatory, which dates to 1886 and designed by Levi t. Scofield to resemble a castle. It hasn't been used in many years, but the building has become a tourist attraction, especially during Halloween when people come to take part in a haunted tour. The old reformatory has also been used for several movies, most notably "The Shawshank Redemption." Other attractions include the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial, the Mansfield Art Center, and Oak Hill Cottage, built in 1847 and one of the best examples of Carpenter Gothic architecture in the United States. Downtown Mansfield is home to a Historic Carrousel District, which includes a hand-carved, indoor wooden carousel, built by the Carrousel Works, Inc., the first of its kind to be built and operated in the U.S. since the 1930s.

Northeast Ohio has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid, winters are cold and snowy. Spring is unpredictable and autumn is sunny and mild. You can expect almost any type of weather in Northeast Ohio - severe thunderstorms in summer, tornadoes spring through fall, blizzards and winter ice storms may occur from time to time. It's definitely a good idea to check ahead if you're traveling to Ohio, as weather here is changeable. In general, however, the warmest month is July and the coldest month is January. The maximum rain usually occurs in June. Some years see huge accumulations of snow, while other years the ground may be covered only 2 or 3 times. Autumn is the sunniest and often best time of the year.
