New-Philadelphia
is located in northeast Ohio, about 70 miles south of Cleveland. The population is approximately 17,000. New Philadelphia was first settled in 1772 by the Moravian Church and named Schoenbrunn (meaning beautiful spring.) It was intended as a mission for the Delaware Indians and included 60 dwellings and over 300 residents. As problems arose due to the American Revolution, the mission at Schoenbrunn was closed. The founder later returned in 1804 and hired a Mr. John Wells to plot out the new town in the same grid style as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - thus it was named "New Philadelphia." Today, Schoenbrunn Village is a recreated village and museum that includes cabins, a school and church, museum and gift shop, and the original village cemetery. New Philadelphia is also home to Tuscora Park, a city park that features a Ferris wheel and other rides, miniature golf, batting cages swimming pools, picnicking and a teen center. The carousel at Tuscora Park is a rare, vintage carousel with 36 carved, all-wood horses, two chariots and 428 lights. The center panels feature 14 original oil paintings and the music is a Wurlitzer 153 bank calliope. Several special events at held at Tuscora park, including a Summer Showcase at the amphitheater and the annual First Town Days Festival. The festival honors the town's history and includes a parade and fireworks display. New Philadelphia also hosts a farmer's market every Tuesday morning, July through September in the main parking lot of Tuscora Park.

Northeast Ohio has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid, winters are cold and snowy. Spring is unpredictable and autumn is sunny and mild. You can expect almost any type of weather in Northeast Ohio - severe thunderstorms in summer, tornadoes, blizzards and other winter ice storms may occur from time to time. It's definitely a good idea to check ahead if you're traveling to Ohio, as weather here is changeable. In general, however, the warmest month is July and the coldest month is January. The maximum rain usually occurs in June. Some years see blizzards and huge accumulations of snow, while other years the ground may be covered only 2 or 3 times. Autumn is usually the best time of year with warm to mild days and cool nights.
