Walnut-Creek
is a small village located in Holmes county in the heart of Ohio's Amish County. It lies in the northeastern part of the state at the intersection of State Routes 39 and 515. Settled in 1809 by Jonas Stutzman, who was of the Amish faith, Walnut Creek has become a popular tourist spot in Ohio. Stutzman was an eccentric man, who predicted the return of Christ in the year 1853. He even built a larger-than-normal wooden chair for His return, and this chair can be viewed at the Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center in nearby Berlin, Ohio. Walnut Creek is one of the main villages of the Amish County, known for its peaceful farms, clip-clop of horse-drawn carriages, quaint shops and delicious homemade foods. Shop for handmade quilts, artwork, handcrafted wood furniture, Amish cheese, pies, chocolates and ice cream. Walnut Creek is home to Der Dutchman Restaurant, nestled on a hilltop with bucolic views, it was the first big Amish-style restaurant in the area. People come from miles around to eat the family-style dinners of turkey, ham, beef, homemade mashed potatoes, fresh baked rolls and warm-from-the-oven pies. Other attractions include the German Cultural Museum in Walnut Creek, and nearby Yoder Farm on Route 515. This 116-acre farm offers tours of two homes and the barn where you can pet some of the animals. When planning your trip to the Amish County, take note that some of the shops are closed on Sundays. Be sure to bring your camera for photos of the picturesque villages and countryside, but be aware that most Amish peoples do not like to have their pictures taken.

Northeast Ohio's Amish County has a four-season climate, typical of most Midwestern states. Summers are warm and can be humid, although often the severe humidity lasts for only a few days, resulting in a cooling thunderstorm. Some days see 90 F/32C for at least a few days. Winters are cold and snowfall varies greatly year to year. Some years sees temperatures dip into the single digits for a few days. Fall is the sunniest and best season for weather in Ohio. Warm days and cool nights result in some of the most beautiful fall foliage anywhere, but especially in this region of rolling hills and woodlands. A jacket is recommended for fall evenings when the temperature may dip into the low 40s. Spring weather in Northeast Ohio is often unpredictable with cool days and showers.
