Malta
is a village located in Morgan County in southeast Ohio. The population is approximately 700 residents. Although small, Malta has lots to offer visitors. First of all, it's located in a very scenic area along the Muskingum River. There is a lovely park situated along the river that offers picnicking, fishing, a boat launch and playground. The town of Malta is also just 15 miles from Burr Oak State Park, which is one of the premier state parks in the state. Burr Oak State Park is set among 2,593-acres of wooded hills and scenic valleys of the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Camping is available at Burr Oak, and the lake at Burr Oaks is 664 acres and offers boating and fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish. There is a 500-foot swimming beach at Burr Oak, with a bathhouse, showers, and changing booths, but no lifeguards are on duty at this beach. Other things to do include hiking and horseback riding. Just a short drive from Malta, get ready to experience the largest wildlife conservation facility in North America. The Wilds is a facility where African, Asian, and North American wildlife roam freely. Consisting of 6,000 acres of rolling grasslands, 3,000 acres of dense woods and 700 acres of wetlands, The Wilds promotes conservation through education and research programs. Guided tours are available May to October. Other attractions near Malta include the Wolf Creek Wildlife Area, Blue Rock State Park, Dillon State Park and the Stockport Mill Country Inn, which is the last remaining mill on the Muskingham River.

Southeast Ohio has a humid continental climate. This region is located in the unglaciated Allegheny Plateau, surrounded by hills and river valley. Summers in southeast Ohio are warm and humid. Temperatures are slightly warmer in this region than in northern Ohio, although milder in the eastern highlands. The growing season is also longer here than the rest of the state. More than half of the precipitation occurs from May to October. Winters in southern Ohio are cool to cold. Snowfall varies greatly year to year. Blizzards, ice storms and freezing rain are all a possibility. Spring has a mix of weather, from sunny and mild to cool and rainy. Autumn is the sunniest season of the year with mild days and crisp, cool evenings.
