Zanesville
is a historic city located in Muskingum County in southeast Ohio. As of the 2010 census, the population was 25,487. The city is named for Ebenezer Zane, who famously constructed Zane's Trace, a pioneer road that went through present-day Ohio. Ebenezer Zane settled in this area in 1797 at the point where the Trace met the Muskingum River. Zanesville served as the capital of Ohio from 1810-1812. The Historic National Road also runs through Zanesville (U.S. Route 40) and novelist Zane Grey, a descendant of the Zane family, was born in Zanesville. The city of Zanesville has two famous engineering landmarks: the Muskingum River Canal, designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark; and the Zanesville Y-Bridge, the only such structure in the United States still in use and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Y-Bridge is a well-known aviation landmark. Even Amelia Earhart was quoted as saying, "Zanesville is the easiest recognized city from the air because of the Y- Bridge." Other attractions in the city include the Muskingum County Courthouse, which was manufactured by the same company that made the Liberty Bell. In recent years, Zanesville has become home to a growing number of artists. Several murals are located on buildings downtown and "First Friday" is a monthly event when galleries open their doors to visitors. The Freight Shops on Market Street in Zanesville is a collection of shops and restaurants housed in a historic railroad structure.

Southeast Ohio has a humid continental climate. This region is located in the unglaciated Allegheny Plateau, surrounded by hills and river valley. Summers in southeast Ohio are warm and humid. Temperatures are slightly warmer in this region than in northern Ohio, although milder in the eastern highlands. The growing season is also longer here than the rest of the state. More than half of the precipitation occurs from May to October. Winters in southern Ohio are cool to cold. Snowfall varies greatly year to year. Blizzards, ice storms and freezing rain are all a possibility. Spring has a mix of weather, from sunny and mild to cool and rainy. Autumn is the sunniest season of the year with mild days and crisp, cool evenings.
