Sandusky
is located in north-central Ohio along the shores of Lake Erie. It's almost exactly halfway between Toledo and Cleveland, and has a population of approximately 77,000. In 2011, Forbes ranked Sandusky as "the #1 Best Place to Live Cheaply in the United States." The city of Sandusky is home to Cedar Point Amusement Park, which is one of Ohio's most popular tourist destinations. Cedar Point is a 364-acre park, and the second oldest operating amusement park in the country. It features 74 rides and 16 roller coasters - one of the largest collections of roller coasters in the world. People travel from all over the world to visit Cedar Point and ride its' roller coasters. For the past 14 years, it's received the "Best Amusement Park in the World" award by Amusement Today Magazine. Cedar Point is open daily from mid-May through Labor Day, and thereafter only on weekends through the end of October. Sandusky's prominent tourism industry has brought many other attractions to the city, including several water parks, resorts, two marinas, and a wide variety of shopping and restaurants. Other places to visit include the nearby Lake Erie islands, the fishing village of Port Clinton and Marblehead Lighthouse. Recreational activities include fishing, boating, sailing, water skiing, hiking, biking, picnicking and camping.

Northwest Ohio, along Lake Erie, experiences a humid continental climate, characterized by four distinct seasons. Lake Erie moderates the climate somewhat, especially in late spring and fall. This effect is lessened in the winter when Lake Erie freezes over (unlike the other Great Lakes.) Snowfall varies greatly year to year. Thunderstorms and tornadoes are a possibility, especially in spring and summer. Summers are warm and humid. Southerly and westerly winds combined with warm surface waters of Lake Erie in summer negate the lake's cooling ability on the area, plus the lake's presence increases humidity. Autumn is the sunniest time of the year in this region, with mild days and cool nights. A jacket is recommended for fall evenings that can dip into the upper 30s to low 40s.
